  Chapter One

After Jarod left the company, things immediately changed for him. He was still helping out part-time with the company, getting Shelby situated into the grand scheme of things and making sure she didn’t burn the building down, but that was only for a couple of hours each day, and that was something that was manageable at best. For him, he didn’t really feel like it was hard at all, but rather, it was actually something simple, effective, and soon, she was trained up after three months.

When he finally let her run the show, Shelby cried. She hated that Jarod was leaving, but he told her he would be back as much as possible, still working in this place whenever he did feel like wanting to show his face every now and then. Although it was hard for her to admit, she was happy that he would be back. She would’ve missed him otherwise.

“I really am going to miss you. you were the best damn boss I’ve ever had,” she said to him.

“I’m glad you enjoyed our time together,” he said.

They parted ways, and soon, Jarod started to look into the different lifestyle choices he could make.

He wanted to get into learning something new. He first started with drawing, which didn’t work out so hot, and then he got into painting. Then, he learned about dancing. The other two options didn’t work out very well for him, and while he wished that they did more than anything else, he did feel happy that he found something.

After about three months, he started to get better. He was learning a lot of various dances, mostly focusing on ballet and hip hop dancing. He started to realize that dancing was something he needed in life, something that he missed, and something he started to feel a love for. He went to classes three days a week, and he trained the other two days. It was brutal, but after a bit, he started to think about what he wanted to accomplish with this, and that’s when Jarod learned of his true calling.

“I want to be a professional dancer,” he told himself. He called up his boyfriends, telling them each of his dream, and while he knew that it was probably just going to be a dream, both Ryan and Carl were proud. They had noticed the change over the last few months, and in truth, they started to see that Jarod was actually happy for the first time in his life.

He had never experienced the level of happiness that he had before up until now. It felt foreign, almost as if he was doing something wrong. But each night, he would go to bed, regardless of if he had sex or not, with a smile on his face. In truth, he couldn’t stop smiling, and he knew that things were only going to get better from here.

But then, about six months after he finally left, he started to feel a strange presence. It was a vibe, and during his dance class that day, he was screwing up immensely. The teacher asked if something had happened, but in all honesty, he didn’t understand the cause. He knew for a fact that this was only going to get a bit heavier with time, and that this was only going to change him for the future. He knew whatever was rearing its ugly head was
about to pop out, and he could already feel the annoyance start to press against his mind.

However, he knew immediately what the hell the issue was, and soon, he felt that nagging feeling ghost over him once again, and soon, he heard the fateful sound.

It was his phone ring. He immediately looked at the caller ID, expecting it to be one of his boyfriends, but instead, he saw that name and number, causing him to want to throw the phone away.

“Motherfucker,” he muttered to himself. Goddammit, it just had to be her of all people. The woman that he would rather eat dirt than see once again. His mother.

He hated his parents. He knew that they tried to mean well and all that other crap, but in truth, they actually caused a whole slew of the problems that he seemed to suffer from today. From being gay, to even his job situation, his parents controlled everything from a very young age. He rather would not deal with this, but at the same time, he knew that if he just ignored the call, she wouldn’t stop calling, so that was why he felt that he had to receive this message, whatever it was that she was getting onto him about.

Let’s just hope that it’s nothing too bad. He picked up the phone, hitting the green button to answer.

  “Hello?” he asked.

“Hey there Jarod. It’s your mother. How are you?” she asked.

“Fine. What’s up?” he asked her.

“Oh nothing, I just heard that you recently forked over your company, the company we helped you start up, to another person. Why is that?” she asked.

He gulped. He forgot that he did owe his parents a tiny bit of money. He could still pay it. He was surprised that he forgot. It was really only a couple thousand anyways. They didn’t help all that much, despite what she said.

“Well, there’s a good reason for that, but I would rather not get into that over the phone,” he said.

“Well, we would love to hear the reason for why you have broken all of our rules and agreements. We told you that we would leave you alone and let you do what you do as long as you continue to work for that company. Now that you aren’t, you’re going to have to suffer some dire consequences in terms of what we believe to be the fitting punishment for this,” she said to him.

He wanted to tell her off at that point. He could feel the rage burbling within him as he looked at his phone, almost tempted to do away with it right now.

  “Are you serious?” he asked.

“Yes. We are. Either come see us, or we will ensure that you don’t get anything from that. We do have power still Jarod. No matter what you say, no matter what you do, we do have the power,” his mother said to him.

Thought about all that could happen, all that was about to come about, and he knew for a fact that this was indeed going to take a toll on his future. He wondered what she would think if he told her the truth. He knew that she was probably going to hate him, that’s for sure.

But of course, he knew how much power these two did have, what they could potentially do, and all that they could potentially get into. They could ruin him, he knew that, but he also didn’t want to put that strain on himself. He hated that it was like this, but at the same time, he also knew that holding onto these worries and pretending that it was one thing and not the other was bad as well.

“When would you be free to meet up?” he asked.

“How about next Friday. I would love to have it sooner, but I bet that you’re busy,” she said.

Yeah, he actually was, and she was honestly just being kind of a douche about the way she was acting.

“You know mom, I know you and dad do think you know what’s best for me, but there is a damn good reason I did what I had to do, I did what I felt was right. I did it because I know for a fact that this is honestly the best thing for me. I two that you think that I’m probably a terrible person. Actually, after you learn the truth, you will completely assume that, but I would rather tell you and have you hate me than lie about it. I do have you to thank for helping me get here, but I’ve learned something about myself, something that I believe will change everything. I know you might not enjoy it, but I will say, once you know what I’ve been up to, sometimes the truth isn’t so bad, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll understand my reasoning,” he said to her.

Before she could say anything else he hung up the phone, his entire mood going sour. He didn’t even want to go to the gym, let alone see anyone. He could already feel the wake of his depression looming over him, all of the tensions and worries that seemed to run over him making thins so much harder. For him, he already knew that it was only going to get better from here, and that things were indeed going to change for the best. He knew that he needed to make things right, to make things real, to be happy, and for him, he knew for a fact that he would have to be honest here, to let her know of what’s been really going on.

But the real question however, was could she accept the truth? Or would it continue to eat away at her just like it had for a long time?

  Chapter Two

For Jarod, he was already dreading this. Jarod could already tell that is own mother was being an ass, and that she was getting off to this treatment. He sighed, feeling frustrated about it all.

“I don’t know what to do,” he muttered to himself.

On the one hand, he could totally see this working out if he played his cards right and actually got his two lovers there with his mom to discuss the issues at hand, but he also knew that there were so many other factors there as well, such as the fact that he was also going to have to explain the fact that he was gay to her and hope that she would understand, which she probably didn’t. He knew just how homophobic his parents were, and the fact that they actually would pull that with him said a whole lot.

He felt scared, and for the next few days, he kept to himself. Carl and Ryan didn’t hear a peep from him, and they were worried.

“Should we go talk to him?” Carl asked Ryan.

“I think that might be best. Especially considering the fact that he’s been holding back his feelings for a little bit,” Ryan said.

The two of them knew something was afoot, and soon, they went over to where his home was. For Jarod, he tried to get his mind off it by practicing ballet, but even that was proving to be a futile attempt at trying to better his life. He heard them at the door, and soon, he sighed. He knew he couldn’t run away from this.

“What’s up?” Jarod asked with a band tone of voice.

“Hey. Are you okay? You look terrible,” Ryan said with a curious look. Jarod thought about the best way to get all of the information out to either of them.

“It’s nothing. Don’t worry about it,” he said.

“Bullshit. You’ve been quiet. You look like you’re at odds with something big. Did something happen to you?” Carl said.

He paused. Did he tell them about his mother? The fact that she’s a bigoted bitch, and she was about to find out the truth about her son?

“Come inside. I’ll tell you there. You might want to sit down for this one,” he said.

They looked at him with wrought confusion, heading in and looking at him from across the way. He sighed, feeling annoyed by all of this.

“So, I got a call the other day from someone I would rather not speak to,” he said.

  “Who was it?” Ryan asked.

He paused, thinking about how to go about saying this.

  “My mother,” he simply said.

They looked at him with surprised eyes.

“I didn’t even know that you had a mother that was alive, to be real with you,” Ryan said.

“I do. You just never met her. She’s part of the reason why I’ve always been so against being myself, letting my emotions run wild, the whole nine yards. I hate that she’s still got this grip on me, but she does. Well, I spoke with her, and she wants to have me come over for dinner. She found out about my recent life choices and wants to know what’s up. She doesn’t know about you guys, about dancing, or about me being gay. She’s always been the type of woman
who seemed to only care about herself, and that’s just how she was with me. She always wanted me to be an investor, never giving me a chance to really spread my wings and let me fly. She’s always been the type who only cared about her goddamn self, never letting me make my own life choices. Now that I have, she’s caught on, and I know that she’s going to hate me. Which is why I ask of both of you, do you want to come with me? are you willing to help with this mess? Because in truth, I don’t know how much of this I can actually take. There’s so much going on in my mind right now, and in truth, I don’t know how to cope with it,” he said.

He wanted to cry, and soon, he started to sob slightly. The other two men pulled him close, embracing him hard.

“We’ll speak with her,” Ryan said.

“Yeah. Just let us come along. Trust me on this, we can probably win her over with our words,” Carl said.

“Are you sure about that? I mean, I know for a fact that you guys will probably anger her more. I just don’t want to create a whole bunch of drama with this, but she’s the one who’s been fueling the drama for a long time. She’s the one who’s been forcing me to be something I’m not, and frankly, I hate her,” he said.

“Then just tell her the truth my friend. Don’t let her destroy everything that you’ve got going for yourself,” Carl said.

“I mean, I kind of remember you mentioning her in high school, how you’ve always been against letting me come over to you home. I never knew about her, but I can see why she’s such a problem,” Ryan said.

“Yeah, no shit. I just wish that I could have a normal life, with normal friends and normal actions. I don’t want things to go downhill, but I’m scared of letting others in, showing them my true colors, letting them know what I’ve been up to. I’m scared you guys, I really am, because if I do this wrong and they decide to take everything away from me, I could lose it all,” he said. He was crying once again, and while Jarod normally didn’t sob like a baby, the fact that he might not be accepted by family, by people he thought that he could trust, by those that seemed worthy but instead wanted nothing to do with him, all of that was taking a toll on him. However, Ryan stepped back, looking at Jarod right in the eyes.
